Boko Haram Member Caught Spying IDP Camp In Yobe

A man suspected of being member of insurgent group Boko Haram sits in field base of Chadian soldiers in Gambaru

A suspected Boko Haram member was arrested yesterday spying on the Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camp in Damaturu, Yobe state.
A security source told our correspondent that the arrest was based on a tip-off by vigilant residents who complained of seeing a strange man loitering around the camp.

“We arrested him. He claimed to be a Ghanaian who came from a nearby village. We took him to the JTF headquarters for interrogation where he confessed to be a Boko Haram member spying on the area,” the source said.

A resident in the area told our correspondent that they sighted the man roaming around the IDPs location at about 7am. “Nobody knew him in the area and we became suspicious of him,” he said.

The residents then reported the intruder to the men of the Civil Defence Service Corps manning the IDPs camp who later arrested him and handed him over to the military.
